Red shrimp with foie gras mayo, green strawberries, turnip slivers, and hijiki at Metamorfosi.

Big news today in the Rome food world: two outstanding restaurants have been awarded Michelin stars. Metamorfosi and Pipero al Rex have rightfully earned one star each. It has been exciting and joyous to watch the food at both of these young restaurants evolve and improve over the past two years.

Chef Roy Caceres’ food at Metamorfosi was good when it opened two years ago and things got even better when close friend and occasional Parla Food guest blogger John Regefalk joined the team as sous chef. Perhaps my glowing recommendations of Metamorfosi smacked of bias at the time, but this is proof they were firmly rooted in fact:) A HUGE congrats to Roy, John, and company! This recognition is long overdue!

Pipero al Rex, led by Chef Luciano Monosilio and consummate host Alessandro Pipero, has earned a devoted following since opening just over a year ago. The food was great from the start and got rave reviews from Parla Food readers. The votes are in and the critics agree. Pipero is star-worthy. Auguroni ragazzi!
