Katie is teaming up with chef Drew Di Tomo and the Amis team in Philadelphia to showcase the flavors of Istanbul. Katie and Drew, both hard core Rome fans, were discussing a way to showcase their favorite city. After seeing Katie’s instagram shots from a recent trip to Turkey, Drew dreamed up the delicious idea of serving food from the other Rome, the city that the Emperor Constantine called “New Rome”: Istanbul.
The Rome-Istanbul connection runs deep. Not only was Istanbul, formerly Constantinople, also a capital of the Roman Empire, both cities have an ancient cuisine that has been wonderfully contaminated by trade and immigration. Join Katie and Adam on Monday January 22 for a pop-up showing off some delicious dishes from Turkey’s largest city. The “Eating Istanbul” dinner will feature a unique menu inspired by Katie’s travels:
meze platter:
kalamar tava – fried calamari with walnut sauce
kuru burluce – black eyed pea salad with pomegranate, walnut and onion
pilaki – stewed white beans in olive oil with carrot, potato, and onion
assorted zeytinyagli veg – vegtables braised in olive oil and herbs
second course:
borek – crispy puffed dough stuffed with leeks, fresh cheese and pomegranate
entree:
kofte – lamb meatballs with charred peppers and pilav
