Every six months or so, Eater asks me to contribute to their Heatmap column and weigh in on what’s hot in Rome right now. Unlike Eater’s native NYC, Rome’s restaurant scene doesn’t move a mile a minute, but there have been plenty of new openings recently. A few of them (see 1-3 on the Heatmap) are awesome, others are good (4, 5, 7 and 10), while some are sceney and only really interesting for their cocktails (8, 9). I cannot for the life of me comprehend why 6 is lavished with so much praise and attention considering its mediocre food, but it’s buzzy, so it made it to the Heatmap.
There are lots of new openings on the horizon (like Trapizzino in Ponte Milvio, scheduled to open in mid-December). But in the meantime, the only new or newish places you should drop everything and go eat immediately are Mazzo, DOL-ProLoco and Dall’Antò.
