Mark your calendars for next Saturday and Sunday, March 9 and 10, when the Spirit of Scotland Whisky Festival rolls out its second annual edition. The event is organized by, among others, Andrea Fofi, whom I met in NYC last month for a chat. He explained that, contrary to what one might expect, there is actually a great interest for whisky in Rome. If the success of shops like Le Bon Bok and Emporio del Gusto are anything to go on, he’s right.
The festival aims to attract drinkers ranging from neophytes to masters. Spirit of Scotland will feature blind tastings, chocolate parings, a cigar lounge and over 1000 labels, including the Fesitval’s own whisky, a 14-year-old Benrinnes. The venue, the Aranciera di San Sisto on via Valle delle Camene 11, is a 5-minute walk from the Circus Maxiums Metro. For more info, visit the Spirit of Scotland website or their Facebook page.
