In June 2025 I will be hosting a trip to Friuli and Slovenia with Philly-based chef Jeff Michaud. Here’s what we’ve got cooking!
Day One: Venetian Beginnings
Kick off your adventure with a Venetian rowing lesson in the back canals of Cannaregio, plus a crash course in cicchetti and aperitivo culture at a bacaro before heading to the Venica Wine Resort in the lush Collio region. Unwind with a tour and tasting session at this exclusive retreat.
Day Two: Cook & Cruise
Learn to cook traditional Friulian dishes with Chef Jeff Michaud and Signora Anna. Later, take a Vespa ride through scenic vineyards. Cap the day with a relaxed dinner at a local osteria, sampling the diverse flavors of Friuli.
Day Three: Farm Fresh
Visit the Zoff family’s organic farm, famous for their artisanal cheeses and creamy gelato. After some downtime, tour the innovative Scarbolo Winery and enjoy a refined rural dinner featuring modern Friulian cuisine.
Day Four: Alpine Adventure
Journey to the Carnia region in the Dolomites. Discover the culinary traditions of Sauris, known for its exceptional hams and homemade spirits. Enjoy lunch with a view and a lakeside dinner before returning to your resort.
Day Five: Slovenian Treasures
Relax in the morning before exploring Brda’s renowned wineries. Delight in a scenic drive through the Soča Valley and dine at Hiša Franko, a Michelin-starred gem known for its hyperlocal, exquisite cuisine.
Day Six: Cultural Immersion
Spend a day in Trieste, soaking in its rich history and unique culinary blend. After exploring, enjoy a final dinner al fresco, celebrating the culinary crossroads of Friuli, Austria, and Slovenia.
Day Seven: Farewell Friuli
Savor your last breakfast and soak in the picturesque surroundings before departing from this unforgettable journey.
