It is rare that I actually crave a salad, but now and again my body just demands some detox food and Aromaticus, an urban farming shop and cafe, which opened in Monti in December, is just the place to get it. The place specializes in aromatic salads that incorporate organic field greens, herbs, nuts and dried fruits and Tuesday-Saturday guests can eat light fare among farming implements and potted plants.
Owners Luca De Marco and Francesca Lombardi serve food from 1pm (the shop opens at 11am) and the menu isn’t limited to salads. There are also lean fish and beef carpaccio dishes, as well as steak tartare. Local beer and cheeses are also served. There are also jacket potatoes.
In the few times I have eaten at Aromaticus, I have always found the food to be tasty and fresh and the service to be kind. I would lose the disposable plates, which feel strangely at odds with the natural concept of the store, but otherwise it is a delightful retreat with healthy, moderately priced food, which is just what the doctor orders when you can’t swallow one more bite of carbonara.
