“Katie Parla’s Istanbul” Now in the App Store!

ipad-iphone-parla-instanbul-fpoI am super excited to announce the arrival of “Katie Parla’s Istanbul”, which hit the App Store a few hours ago! For over a decade, I have been studying Istanbul and its food, tracing the origins of the city’s dishes, crisscrossing the Bosphorus in search of ingredients and feeding my full-blown obsession with one of the world’s greatest cuisines. I’m thrilled I finally get to share all I have learned in a handy portable format.

The app works offline–that means no hefty roaming charges–and inside you will find a collection of my favorite places to eat sweets, shop for pickles, drink cocktails, eat grilled offal and browse farm fresh produce. What you won’t find is a dozen great places to eat next to the Blue Mosque (because they don’t exist!).

My goal is to lead you through a sublimely delicious Istanbul experience. To that end, I have highlighted the city’s great food artisans, grill masters and chefs. While the focus is firmly on my favorite venues in town, it wouldn’t be a Parla publication without a healthy dose of brutal honesty, so I have included pointers on where and what not to eat. I have consumed lots of terrible dishes so you don’t have to! I’ll tell you where to avoid overrated food, which dishes to steer clear of and which tourist traps to duck into for a quick peek, but not a full meal.

If you enjoy the app, I hope you will rate it in the App Store and if you see room for improvement, please drop me a line. I will be working to improve functionality and to expand content, so stay tuned for regular updates and improvements. Afiyet olsun!

Fantastic! Can’t wait to visit Istanbul and try it out. Now I don’t have to bug you with “Where should I eat”? How do I get there? What kind of food do they serve?” Best of luck with it…I know how hard you worked on this project in order to give visitors to this amazing city a comprehensive authentic food experience! Brava!

I would almost buy an Iphone just to able to use your app. I’m using your original Rome for Foodies on my Android.

This is the impetus we need to start planning our trip with you to Istanbul. And of course, will have to upgrade our phone!!
