Taverna dei Fori Imperial Closes Its Doors

taverna_ravioli

On Sunday Taverna dei Fori Imperiali closed its doors at Via Madonna dei Monti 16 in Rome. But don’t be alarmed. In November, Taverna will reopen just 20 yards away at number 9 on the same street. Their famous caponata, burrata-filled ravioli (pictured above), and pappardelle with veal and black truffles will be served in a slightly larger dining room beneath exposed brick arches. And the kitchen will be larger and better equipped to serve Taverna’s hungry die hard fans.

I love Taverna – they can move any place in Roma as long as the food doesnt change.

Just got back from Rome and found “Ice Club” where the Taverna used to be. NOT what I was expecting.

Glad to know they will be back.

That place terrifies me. Why won’t IT move away, preferably to next to John Cabot or Campo de’ Fiori where it belongs.

Hi, I just stumbled across your website while looking for recommendations on places to eat in Roma. My boyfriend is italian (da Milano, but he lived in Roma for a few years) and we are going there this weekend for his birthday and I wanted to take him somewhere decent to eat. I was considering Taverna dei Fori but then I read a few bad recent reviews on trip advisor and thought perhaps it had succumbed to “over-touristed success”, and then I saw this post that it may be closed anyway? It is november now so I was wondering if you know whether it has reopened, and whether you think it is worth a visit?

    Cheers,
    Kazzart

Taverna will reopen this month. I have been going there for years and I do not agree that the food has suffered due to its high tourist volume. The food is actually very consistent. It is a good go-to when you are in the neighborhood, especially at lunchtime. If you want a really special experience for not much more money, visit La Gensola in Trastevere. The food, especially the fish, is wonderful.
