Ordinarily, I find no joy in receiving press releases announcing a new opening in Rome. More often than not, they are about another useless burger joint, a lame “strit fud” stall, or a brunch-buffet-bisto-ristorante-mixology-cafe-all-you-can-eat-ribs-on-Tuesdays disaster. But today I received a joyous email signaling the opening of The Jerry Thomas Emporium, the hotly anticipated shop from the team behind The Jerry Thomas Project, Italy’s premier craft cocktail bar.

The shop is scheduled to open on Saturday January1 16 at 2:00PM. The cavernous ground floor space will further the JTP philosophy of championing Italian liqueurs and vermouths and, since the JTP crew owns part of a Piedmont-based distillery, expect to find plenty of their own products on offer, especially the various incarnations of their Vermouth del Professore inspired by historic recipes. The shop will also stock cocktail tools and books and will aim to be yet another point of reference for craft bartenders in Rome.
