Kappacasein's Toasted Cheese Sandwich

Kappacasein, Borough Market

There are few things in life that are as soothing as a grilled cheese sandwich. And there are few things on earth that are as delicious as Kappacasein‘s version of this simple delicacy. Their melty cheesy masterpiece consists of shredded Montgomery cheddar, diced onions, garlic, and leeks smashed between poilane sourdough bread. Their stall is literally the only thing that will get me to Borough Market on a weekend (Kappacasein is there Thursday-Saturday). They also sell their cheeses and “Bermondsey Friers” on (most) Saturdays at the Maltby Street Market. However, when I scored the sandwich above at Borough Market this afternoon, I was informed they wouldn’t be there this weekend, as they had run out of cheese. With sandwiches this absolutely perfect, it’s hard to believe they are able to keep any cheese in stock at all.

That’s exactly what I need right now, and with the cold front about to hit again on the weekend. May I ask how much that costed in London?

I know of 2 shops that sells the real Poilane Bread in Hong Kong (and a supermarket sells them by the loaf) – and each open sandwich is going to cost like 15 Euro plus. I keep thinking whether I should have at least 1 go at them! ūüôā

woah! ‚ā¨15-that is intense! Kappacasein sells toasted cheese sandwichs for ¬£5 and plates of potatoes and gherkins smothered in raclette for the same price. ‚ā¨15 for any sandwich seems criminal.

¬£5 is much more sane and affordable on a daily basis, after its good artisanal bread with great cheese! But imagine eating sandwiches costing 3 times that ~ I think I’d rather do Mcd’s!

Where did they go? They have left the Borough Market and I am devastated!

Kappacasein has been thrown out of Borough with 6 other traders for no legitimate reason. The Borough Market Trust evicted them last Saturday. You can find Kappacasein 1 Voyager, Frean St, London SE16 4RP on Saturdays from 9-2pm. The other 6 traders can be found at their regular stalls at maltby street, more info here :

You can find them at the Real Food Market at Southbank Centre every weekend too along with Borough Cheese!
